Canine Kicking Voyeur.

This story is on the one hand quite sad, no one likes to see a dog being attacked after all but there is something I don't quite get:

The Sun told yesterday how a sickened neighbour filmed the attack for 13 minutes.
Surely if they were that sickened they would have stopped it, rather than just filmed it for quarter of an hour.

Ah, but then he wouldn't be able to get his name in the papers.

Simples!

Can't sleep, mate?

Perhaps it's simply that fear of getting involved which pervades our culture. As an adult male, I would think twice about rebuking a 12-y-o girl for fear of

(1) physical counterattack by her, other strangers, family, etc,

(2) formal prosecution for some or other form of 'assault',

(3) being explicitly accused of being a nonce by the girl herself, or being construed as such by locals, in consequence being a) torn to pieces and/or b) banged up.

You do have be a bit careful these days.

The other factor is that the 'sickened neighbour' probably thought they were taking action. People tend to confuse the virtual and the real.

It's part of the same pathology where tourists lay out hundreds or thousands of dollars on a visit to London and then spend the entire holiday wandering round with a camcorder glued to their eye. They could as readily, and more cheaply, have visited Google Streetview.

Plus of course, the little porker looked like she was quite capable of turning nasty towards humans, too!

Sadly true. 'If it ain't in the papers, it ain't real, innit?'

The poor dog is despairing how the country has gone to the humans.

No, the heat made me fall asleep in the evening so I was up half the night.

That's a point, she does look as if she could turn vicious.

#groan#.

Followed your link and now wish I hadn't; it'll take ages to get my eyeballs clean again.

So kind of the Sun to include the video in question, so that we could all fully appreciate the spectacle of gratuitous cruelty!
